Scouts at Mebane UMC
General Information
Our Boy Scout Troop 47 meets at Mebane United Methodist Church on Mondays at 7pm in the Scout Room. For information about the Troop and to learn about the summer activities we have planned please call Scoutmaster Tracy Claiborn at 563-8636.
We also sponsor a Girl Scout Cadet Troop. For information please call Teresa Claiborn at 563-8636.
Camperships Available
The Millard Patton Scouting Fund was established in March, 2003 to help cover scouting related expenses for those scouts or scouters from Troop 47 who wish to participate in summer camps, leadership development or high adventure activities, and exemplify the ideals of scouting. In order to be considered to receive a scholarship Scouts or scouters must be active members, who are involved in the leadership of Troop 47.
Troop 47, the Mebane United Methodist Church and the family of Millard Patton created this fund to honor the memory of Millard Patton. Mr. Patton was an executive in the textile industry, member of several civic organizations, and a dedicated member of Mebane United Methodist Church, the Men's Club and Troop 47.
As a Scouter, Millard served the troop, district and council for over 50 years. He was awarded the District Award of Merit, the Scouter's Key, and the Silver Beaver. He earned his Wood Badge beads, and later served as Scoutmaster for a Woodbadge course of his own. He was active in the Order of the Arrow (Vigil member) and led several contingents to Philmont and the National Jamboree. While active in the leadership of Troop 47, twenty-four young men earned the Eagle Rank.
Up to 20% of the fund's principle can be awarded each year. Applications must be received in sufficient time for consideration. Awards will be presented in April and October of each year to qualifying candidates. Completed applications will be reviewed by special committee, and candidates will be notified of the results. If awarded, a check will be made out to the activity on behalf of the scout (not directly to the scout or his family).
